Hi John. Can you tell me a little bit more about why you want this feature? Are you looking to engage certain people immediately (through mention or DM)? Or you just want to know who might be "listening" in real-time? We do sort the people in the header of the space by who is active but there is no mechanism to sort that way in the membership list in space settings so I'd love to learn a little more about your need/the use case.

Hi Rachael. You have kind of described the use cases above. I want to be able to quickly know who is 'listening' on a space and be able to quickly engage with relevant people quickly.  If the space has many people in it then the header is taken up by all the 'As'  as shown in the screenshot below which has "Alan, Andrew, Andrew, Anton & Barry"

If I know that 'Vincent" or "Vasilieos" are in a large space that I'm in and they could help me with my issue I'd like to know that they are listening to the space but in order to check that I go to the full space members view and am met with this:

So I scroll and scroll and scroll again and eventually find this:

so I guess ultimately what I would like is less interactions (button clicks, scrolls, window openings etc) with the interface in order to find the information I want and fitering the data helps with that. The example above is trivial as it only involves 3 mouse scrolls to find is the person I want but what if we have a space with several hundred members?

So maybe even a # of # before we have to scroll to see if specific people we want to hear live are on line.  I agree if users could be displayed by status instead of alphabetically this would help

Yes, that's something we are definitely looking at (showing the # of available users in a space).

As an alternative, couldn't all members remain in view, but those online are presented before the offliners? First online members, alphabetically, then off line members, alphabetically.

That’s generally how it works today. We can’t show everyone if there are a lot but you should see online /alphabetical.

As far as I can see, the list of members in a space is strictly alphabetical but with a green dot indicating online presence. My suggestion would rather be:

    • Make it easier to access the list of online members (not via Space Settings => Members)
    • Show online members first, alphabetically, and offline members below, alphabetically (and possibly a toggle to display all members strictly alphabetically as now
    • Introduce a buddy list sorted in the same way for either everybody I have DM:d with or with people of my choice (like in ST). Possibly with an option to show favourites at the top
