You should be able to use your microphone on the mobile keypad to input text today  - but are you referring to recording audio and then converting that voice message?    We do have work in progress/demos that demonstrate Watson's speech to text services and are anxious to do more in this space.

@Ami,   problem is that you can use your microphone ONLY on the MOBILE KEYPAD.    What if i am using a normal PC or MAC , as I usually do ?     I am aware of that demos on Watson´s speech to text services,  particulary, I did several using nodered to get the input on a microphone,  use speech to text, and then publich the message on a space...      But the problem itself is that if you are using the WATSON WORKSPACE UI interface, on a PC,  there is not way to use the microphone!!

I do not care if you do not convert the voice message...    just allow to upload the voice messsage, and give me apis so i can use my own program to access that "file" and do my own speech to text in needed...

Thanks for the clarification - that helps Andres!  Are there other apps that do this well that you are familiar with?

Only whatsapp  (that not only on mobile, but also on desktop app, allows you to use the micro) ....

But honestly,  I do not not known either other apps that do  cognitive ... :-)  Are not trying we to do WW the best tool on the market ? ;-)

Yes, of course, was just curious if this was unique in the market or well known functionality.  Thanks!

macOS has voice input with Siri and I think Win 10 also has.

So is there an advantage to implementing voice <-> text ourselves instead of using OS features?

Can something be done to control OS voice input from the mobile / browser apps which would improve the user experience?

Very interesting topic. I have also been wondering about using Voice Message recording capabilities, similar to WhatsApp.

I agree with Arnd's question, why can we not use what already exists from iOS or Android features?

I anticipate this will be more request for Voice capabilities in the future.

Much of my time I use WW on my mobile, it would be much easier to be able to just Hold a Button and record a response, or take a dictation and do text-speech (so that Watson and process that and summarize the conversation in Moments).

The Key is that it should not be Technical or Complicated to use or have to do a lot of configuration for a simple end user.

I'm not a big user of voice input myself - mybe I'm too old.

But there is one obvious area where it is necessary for safety reasons: driving a car

I have used the built in speech to text of WIndows 10 to input text to WW and it works quite well.  It works in the same way android does in that its using what is built into the native os to perform the action and you can simply send the output of the conversion to WW by simply speaking insert, send and saying ok.
